Seeking Donations for Firefighters

FSSW is assisting the wildland firefighters in southern Oregon to get ready for the fire season. Southern Oregon is the hub for wildland firefighters for the country. Despite doing essential work and risking their lives, the wildland firefighters are paid just above minimum wage and are expected to come to work with $1,200-$1,500 worth of equipment and supplies. They have requested our assistance in getting ready for the 2024 fire season. Your financial and material donations are greatly appreciated. Here are some of the requested items: sleeping bags to zero degrees, hygiene supplies (deodorant, baby wipes, shampoo, shower gel, razors/shaving cream, toothbrushes/toothpaste, towels, flipflops), Dayquil/Nyquil, insect repellent, socks/underwear/T-shirts (L and XL), tennis shoes and leather firefighter boots (sizes 8.5 – 11.5, boots 8” high, Vibram sole, not steel toe).

Let’s Talk About Death: Reflection, Conversation and Where to Learn More

Incarceration of Japanese Americans in 1942 Including Quaker Responses

Join Andrea Uehara to learn about her family’s incarceration experiences. She will also discuss the American Friends Service Committee’s (AFSC) sponsorship of a program called the National Japanese American Student Relocation Council. Other topics will include examples of individual Quaker responses to aid or comfort displaced members of the Japanese American community, as well as legal challenges to the internment. Christmas Eve Celebration with Bridge City Friends

Bridge City Friends Meeting invites all to join us for a Christmas Eve celebration in person at Multnomah Friends Meetinghouse. We will share Scripture readings and singing of the birth of Jesus, with candle lighting and a short period of worship before Joy to the World. Simple cookies and tea social time to follow the lessons and carols. Please park in the Mazama lot, available to Meetinghouse users on Sundays, to free street space for neighbors.
