Request from Care & Counsel: Replenishing the Assistance fund

 
Our committee oversees and distributes money to Friends experiencing a financial crisis through Meeting’s Assistance Fund. Often the folks in need are families struggling to keep a roof over their heads and feed their children. We are a large community and we sometimes receive multiple requests at any given time. We rely on the generosity of Friends to keep the Fund replenished. Please consider donating by writing a check and indicating in the corner that it is for the Assistance Fund. Quaker Basics Introduction

How does a new Friend parse out Quakerism and how to practice it?  By observing and asking questions and jumping in! Adult Religious Education is pleased to announce the Spring offering of Quaker Basics.  This is an initial gathering and the series starts on Sunday, February 15th.

Worship Sharing with Movement

Saturday, January 24,  10–11:30, Meeting Room 

Every fourth Saturday, from 10 to 11:30 at the  Meetinghouse, we invite you to explore using movement as part of your spiritual practice. In Worship Sharing with Movement, we will share the experience of pausing, grounding and listening, with curiosity and care, moving as we are led. We will move in solitude, in dyads, and in community. We will move with song and blessing, explore additional practices and close with a Circle Dance. Please feel free to join us even if this is a very new direction for you. If you have questions, you’re welcome to talk with one of us. Daily Quaker Meeting with Attention to Peace

Peaceful Interfaith Protest at ICE Facility

Last Saturday of each month
Meet at Elizabeth Caruthers Park
A group of Quakers, Buddhists, Jews, and other people of faith are again planning a peaceful interfaith protest at the ICE facility on Macadam Avenue. We will gather at Elizabeth Caruthers Park at 4:00pm and walk silently to the facility. Please note: change of date (fifth Saturday) and time (4pm). We will walk by the facility three times, in silence, dropping flowers as we go to remember the taken and protest injustice. Then we will return to the park for some worship. The estimated end time is 6:00pm. Please bring at least three flowers, if you wish to drop flowers. This is a completely peaceful protest and no items that could be considered weapons should be brought. Contact for further information.

Freedom Songs at ICE

The Quakers for Justice group invites all to sing songs of protest and freedom at ICE on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 19, starting at 7 pm. Songsheets provided. Gather at S Moody Ave and S Bancroft St. Since there may be disruptions or altercations at protests and rallies, Friends are encouraged to use personal discernment when deciding whether to attend such gatherings.
