Death Cafe

We host Death Cafes the second Sunday of each month to offer people in the Portland area space for an open, nonjudgmental discussion of our personal experiences with illness, death, grief and loss. The objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to help us make the most of our (finite) lives. For more information contact Ellen Simmons.

Friendly Readers Multnomah Meeting Book Group

Friendly Readers is an open, drop-in book group, discussing books from a Quaker perspective and getting to know each other more deeply. Everyone is invited. You do not have to commit to regular attendance, or to have read the book. Our discussions are about the topics raised. We discuss one book each month over two meetings, which focus on different issues, so come to either or both. For February we are discussing the Multnomah County Everybody Reads book, Lovely One: A Memoir by Ketanji Brown Jackson.  For more information about Friendly Readers, contact Kepper at  

Reflecting on the Spiritual State of Our Meeting Community

Join us to consider queries about how our Meeting can respond to the spiritual concerns in our community. These queries include: 
1. What do I mean by Spirit or spiritual? Do others in our group mean something else? How do we react to that diversity? 
2. Does my manner of living flow from my deepest beliefs? Are our group’s actions in accord with its deepest shared beliefs? 
3. Have we helped each other recognize and follow leadings? Have we connected and grown in Spirit together?
4. Have we helped one another tenderly, in body and spirit? Are any needs within the group going unanswered?
5. Has Spirit led us to take social action together as a whole? Are we satisfied with what we are doing in the world? What do we long to do? 

Report on Guatemala

Eight Portland Quakers went to Antigua, Guatemala to participate in an English language intensive last month. Join them to find out about the Progresa College Scholarship Program, which serves mostly Mayan women in Guatemala, and the annual Progresa English Program. Come Hear an Eyewitness Account of the 2025 Sumud Flotilla to Gaza

Wednesday, Feb 11  7:00–9:00 PM in the meeting room.  

Portland’s own Paul Reid will share his firsthand experience aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, a 50-vessel aid mission to Gaza that was intercepted by Israeli forces in 2025. Reid, who began the voyage across the Mediterranean in late August, was detained along with several hundred others before returning safely to Oregon. He was part of a diverse international delegation that included Greta Thunberg, Mandla Mandela, former Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau, and several European lawmakers.   Co-sponsored by QPIN and Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA)-Portland Metro.  Donations to the AFSC Gaza Relief Fund are welcomed.

Replenishing the Assistance Fund

Our committee oversees and distributes money to Friends experiencing a financial crisis through Meeting's Assistance Fund. Often the folks in need are families struggling to keep a roof over their heads and feed their children. We are a large community and we sometimes receive multiple requests at any given time. We rely on the generosity of Friends to keep the Fund replenished. Please consider donating by writing a check and indicating in the corner that it is for the Assistance Fund. Winter Willamette Quarterly Meeting

Winter Quarterly is back! We’ll conduct a spirit-led dive into the business of WQM, including the finances and matters that emerged from WQM 2025. But not to worry, we will play, move, laugh, learn, share a meal, feel the warmth of Friendship, and strengthen our beloved community by reviving this mid-winter tradition.

Location: Corvallis Friends Meeting House – 3311 NW Polk Avenue. Accommodations: Most Friends will commute. Corvallis Friends will arrange lodgings for those travelling from distance.
